Yes, a B1 level assessed through an official certification is required at the application.
First, students need to be nominated by their home university. Afterwards, the International Relation Office of the School of Architecture will send nominated students an email with all the instructions and forms for the application. The application documents (Enrolment form, Learning Agreement and a B1 Italian certificate) must be sent back to the International Relations Office by email according to the deadlines of each semester. The Italian University System is divided between Laurea Triennale (Bachelor’s Degree), Laurea Magistrale (Master’s Degree) and Laurea Magistrale a Ciclo Unico (5 years’ Master's Degree).
The School of Architecture in Florence offers a wide range of degree programs – 3 bachelor's programs, 6 master's programs and one 5 years’ degree course. Depending on the subject areas, the academic offer is held in the three different campuses, which are located in Florence (Architecture and Landscape Architecture), Calenzano (Design) and Prato (Urban Planning).
Exchange students can take courses offered on any campus at any level of study, with the agreement of their home institution. In any case, before making the decisions, we highly recommend checking carefully the courses catalog and the contents listed under the "contenuti del corso" section.

No, our Institution does not provide accommodation for exchange students studying at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. However, DSU Toscana supports students' lodging needs by providing accommodation in its facilities, subject to application and availability. The request can be addressed to residenze.fi@dsu.toscana.it, with the following information:
- Name and surname;
- Sex (M-F);
- Requested months.

Courses of the winter term usually start after mid of September and they finish around the second half of December. The exam session of the winter term starts in early January and ends around the beginning of February. Courses of the spring term usually start after mid of February and they finish at the beginning of June. The exam session of the spring term starts in early June and ends around mid of July. Be aware that, in case you fail some exams, you can try them again in September, during the autumn exams session. Always check the didactic calendar before planning your arrival in Florence and your final departure.
Even if a B1 level assessed through an official certification is required at the application, once in Florence, exchange students can attend one Italian language course for free at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo – CLA. Registration is required on their website. Please note that all language courses offered by CLA start from the A2 level upwards. Note also that the Italian Language Course is not an academic exam and does not provide ECTS credits or marks, so it cannot be added to your Learning Agreement and it will not be certified in your official Transcript of Records.
The tax code (Codice Fiscale) is a fiscal identification code, made of letters and numbers, that identifies citizens when dealing with Italian public Authorities and other Administrations. It is required in Italy for all sorts of procedures (e.g. applying for a resident permit, opening a bank account, applying for the National Health Service card, renting a flat, applying for a fixed telephone line, buying a mobile phone's SIM card, etc.). Exchange students need to get it to enroll at Università degli Studi di Firenze. The request may be submitted personally to any local tax office branch of the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate in Italian). The tax code is issued immediately and free of charge. It is necessary to complete the AA4/8 form. EU/EEA citizens must bring a valid passport or another form of ID; non EU/EEA citizens must bring the passport with a valid visa (if requested) and a copy of it (clearly showing personal data and visa) and/or the residence permit.

Applying for a Residence Permit is a compulsory procedure for all non-EU citizens wishing to stay in Italy for more than 90 days. Within 8 days of entry into Italy, non-EU citizens with a mobility period of more than 90 days must ask the Residence Permit kit at the Sportello Amico Counter in any Post Office in Italy. The 3 receipts issued by the Post Office will be needed to enroll at Università degli Studi di Firenze.
Yes, exchange students can change the courses that do not suit them also after the beginning of the classes. Students are allowed to make adjustments to the original study plan just once per semester. Instructions and deadlines for the change request are available in the section During the Mobility.
Yes, exchange students can ask for an extension of the study period. In the case of Erasmus+ mobility, the extension can be up to a period of a total of 12 months and the mobility period cannot exceed the 30th of September. The Italian public sanitary system is called Servizio Sanitario Nazionale (SSN), distributed through the territory in Aziende Unità Sanitarie Locali (AUSL). To receive the cures that might be needed, students need to bring your European Health Insurance (EHIC). REGISTRATION TO THE SSN (NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE) Those who are registered to SSN have the same rights and duties as Italian citizens including the co-payment of fees for the services provided (ticket). The contribution varies according to the financial situation of the applicant. In some cases (e.g. students) applicants pay a flat fee. How to register as a student

The duration of the registration is equal to the duration of validity of the form and takes place with the choice of the GP (Medico di base) but without issuing the EHIC. - 2. Without E106 / S1 forms the registration is subject to the lump sum fee of € 149.77 per year. Registration is based on a calendar year (e.g. from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020) and it is not possible to pay reduced quotas for shorter periods. You have to go to a Post Office, ask for a blank payment slip (bollettino) and fill in paying attention to the following points:
- the beneficiary (intestatario): Regione Toscana;
- bank account number (conto corrente n°): 289504
- you must indicate the reference (causale): "Contributo iscrizione volontaria al servizio sanitario regionale anno 202*"; pay the annual lump sum fee of € 149,77 for each year of registration with the SSN at the Post Office and keep the payment receipts.
